Griffin powers Clippers in win over Raptors
Feb 8, 2014 - 7:45 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Blake Griffin has scored 30 points in three straight games for the first time in his career.Griffin recorded 36 points and eight rebounds in the Los Angeles Clippers' 118-105 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday.
Griffin is the first player in franchise history since World B. Free in 1979 to top 35 points in three consecutive games.
Jamal Crawford had 21 points and went a perfect 12-of-12 from the foul line for the Clippers, who snapped a two-game skid. DeAndre Jordan tallied 18 points and 13 boards.
"When Blake is playing like that its fun to be around that passion," Crawford said.
DeMar DeRozan ended with 36 points and eight assists for the Raptors, who have lost two in a row. Kyle Lowry donated 19 points and six boards.
Griffin scored 19 of his 36 points in the first quarter, helping the Clippers grab a 29-22 lead.
Los Angeles pulled away late in the second quarter with a 10-0 run. Crawford tallied the first five points of the surge that Darren Collison capped with a 3-pointer for a 65-47 margin with 46.1 seconds to go.
The Clippers took a 67-51 lead into the locker room and built a 22-point lead in the third stanza.
But the Raptors ended the third on a 10-1 run to close the gap. DeRozan's jumper with 50.3 seconds left got Toronto within 92-83.
Los Angeles kept its foot on the gas and led by at least nine throughout the fourth.
"We got it down to nine points," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "We had to attack but we struggled making shots."
Game Notes
The Clippers have won five of their last six versus the Raptors, including the last four meetings at Staples Center ... Toronto went 2-3 on a five-game road trip ... Los Angeles was without guard J.J. Reddick (back/hip) and forward Hedo Turkoglu (knee) ... The Clippers shot 50.7 percent from the field and went 37-of-54 from the foul line.
