Clippers crush Spurs
Dec 17, 2013 - 6:56 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers finally returned home after a seven-game road trip.They sure made up for lost time.
Blake Griffin had 27 points and nine rebounds, while Chris Paul added 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as the Clippers routed the San Antonio Spurs 115-92 on Monday night.
Jamal Crawford netted 17 points and DeAndre Jordan pulled down 11 boards for the Clippers, who went 4-3 on their elongated road trek.
LA was 11-of-23 from beyond the arc and scored 37 points off 22 San Antonio turnovers.
"We got deflections and steals and we like to run," Paul said.
Tim Duncan tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds for San Antonio, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Star Spurs point guard Tony Parker exited the contest with a right shin contusion.
The Clippers led 86-76 with 7:55 left in the fourth after Stephen Jackson hit a short jumper, but back-to-back triples by San Antonio's Patty Mills and Danny Green suddenly whittled the deficit to 86-82.
Los Angeles, though, answered with a 20-4 run to put the game away. Jared Dudley hit consecutive treys to cap the surge and give the hosts a 106-86 spread with 2:32 to play.
Duncan and Parker put in five quick points as the Spurs raced out to a 16-8 start before settling for a 28-21 advantage after a quarter of play.
"We were in control in the first quarter, then turnovers took over," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said.
A Mills three gave San Antonio a 31-21 margin, but the Clippers ripped off 19 straight points to seize control of the contest. Willie Green knocked down two triples during the surge, including one to cap it and make it 40-31 in favor of LA midway through the second.
The Clippers led 55-49 at the break and 78-70 after three.
