Barry comes off bench to spark Spurs past Sixers
Jan 22, 2007 - 1:42 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Brent Barry sparked a big effort from the San Antonio Spurs' bench.Barry scored 23 points and Tim Duncan added 17 and 15 rebounds as the Spurs used stellar outside shooting en route to a 99-85 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
It was a rare road win here for San Antonio, which had dropped five of six contests at the Wachovia Center since 1999. The Spurs only win at Philadelphia in that span came on November 18, 2004.
Struggling to a 5-5 record in its last 10 games, San Antonio received a huge contribution from its reserves, which scored 52 points to help the Spurs overwhelm the lowly 76ers.
Barry gave the Spurs their biggest boost off the bench, shooting 8-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-8 from the arc. With San Antonio's starting backcourt struggling through a bad shooting night, Barry stretched the defense with his shooting ability and drove the ball effectively into the lane.
Starting guards Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili combined for just 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting for the Spurs, who shot 46 percent (38-of-83) from the field and 11-of-23 on 3-pointers.
Andre Iguodala scored 20 points and Steven Hunter added 10 and 15 rebounds for the Sixers, who shot 40 percent (35-of-88) and absorbed their fourth loss in their last five games.
