Final - OT
Jamison shines as Wizards rally past Clippers
Mar 16, 2008 - 4:12 AM By Tim Hipps PA SportsTicker Contributing WriterWASHINGTON (Ticker) - Antawn Jamison had 36 points, including two 3-pointers in overtime, to lead the Washington Wizards to a 119-109 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night.
With 11 rebounds, Jamison was able to register his 37th double-double this season as the Wizards captured their third win in a row.
A two-time All-Star, Jamison's 3-pointer pulled Washington to 98-97 with 4.5 seconds left in regulation.
Tim Thomas made two free throws with three seconds left that gave the Clippers a three-point lead. But Jamison forced OT by making three free throws after Cuttino Mobley fouled him on a 3-point attempt with 2.2 seconds left.
"I think Cuttino thought I was going to wait again, but I went early," Jamison said. "I was able to turn around. I had a clean look. It kind of surprised him. He thought he could get the ball. I was able to get fouled."
"(Jamison) sold it. (Referee) Dick Bavetta went for it," Mobley said of the critical call. "It's what it is, you know what I mean? If you're going to call it, call it on the floor, if anything. He called it for three. That's terrible, but it's his call. I'm disappointed."
Jamison continued to attack in the extra session as he hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Wizards a 108-104 lead with 3:04 remaining.
"That's one thing about this team - we have the no-quit mentality," Jamison said. "Most teams would have folded. We stayed with it. We kept playing and hoping that good things would happen."
"We finally slowed down Caron Butler, but Jamison, man, he's just been a beast against us," Clippers swingman Corey Maggette said. "Last game, he had 29 and the game-winning field goal. This night, he had 36 and two big plays to win the game. And in overtime, he hit two more big threes."
Butler had two dunks and added a shot from the arc to extend the advantage to 117-109 to help the Wizards win going away.
Maggette scored 34 points and Thomas had 17 and seven rebounds for the Clippers, who have lost 11 of their last 13 games.
The Clippers took control with an 8-0 run in the third quarter, capped by Josh Powell's layup for a 76-71 lead.
Los Angeles rookie Al Thornton sustained a right leg contusion in the second quarter and did not return. He had eight points in 12 minutes.
Three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas said before the game that he will have an MRI on his left knee on Tuesday and, if cleared, may play later in the week for Washington.
