Randolph sharp as Knicks top 76ers without Curry

Oct 9, 2007 - 3:34 AM COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Zach Randolph had some room to maneuver for the New York Knicks on Monday night.

With Eddy Curry sidelined, Randolph scored 17 points and Quentin Richardson added 11 as the New York Knicks opened their preseason slate with a 101-92 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

David Lee collected 18 points and six rebounds for the Knicks, who were playing their first game since an embarrassingly public sexual harrassment trial against ownership and coach Isiah Thomas.

A legitimate low-post scorer, Randolph was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in a draft-night trade for veteran guard Steve Francis and forward Channing Frye. The Knicks also received guards Fred Jones and Dan Dickau, who was subsequently bought out of his contract.

But some questioned the 6-9 Randolph's role in the offense alongside the 6-11 Curry, who spends most of his time playing with his back to the basket. However, Curry did not play on Monday with a tear in his right shoulder.

Randolph took advantage, shooting 7-of-10 from the field in just 25 minutes in his first game with the Knicks, who shot 44 percent (32-of-73) from the field.

Andre Miller scored 17 points and rookie Thaddeus Young added 16 for the 76ers, who shot just 38 percent (30-of-78) from the floor.
