O'Neal injured as Heat routed by Charlotte

Oct 14, 2007 - 2:30 AM GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Gerald Wallace scored 18 points and Matt Carroll added 17 to lead the Charlotte Bobcats to a 92-76 win over the Miami Heat on Saturday night.

Wallace did most of his damage at the free-throw line where he made 12-of-15 free throws. Carroll was 3-of-4 from behind the arc.

Miami center Shaquille O'Neal left midway through the second quarter with a bruised left quadriceps injury and did not return. He finished with six points after playing a little over 10 minutes.

The Heat also was without Penny Hardaway, who has yet to play because of a strained right quadriceps.

Charlotte (1-2) started slowly, falling behind 9-3 before roaring into the lead with a 20-6 run midway through the first period. Miami, winless in four preseason games, never recovered.

Rookie Daequan Cook led Miami with 10 points and was the only Heat player in double digits.

The Heat had their second-lowest point total of the preseason and it was their third loss by double digits. Miami's closest game was a six-point overtime loss at home to Atlanta as they've lost by an average of 18 points.

Charlotte center Emeka Okafor grabbed nine rebounds to go with his eight points as the Bobcats outrebounded the Heat, 39-34. Raymond Felton finished with 13 points and five assists.

Miami shot 41 percent (29-71) from the field, while Charlotte shot 46 percent (32-69) from the floor.

Charlotte has never lost to Miami in four preseason games.
