Young leads 76ers past Raptors
Oct 12, 2008 - 7:47 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Thaddeus Young scored a game-high 17 points Sunday, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to an 85-79 exhibition victory over the Toronto Raptors.Young, a second-year forward, connected on 7-of-15 shots from the field, including a trio of 3-pointers in seven attempts.
Andre Iguodala added 13 points for Philadelphia and rookie Marreese Speights came off the bench to score 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. Louis Williams chipped in 10 points for the 76ers (2-1).
Elton Brand had 10 points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes for Philadelphia.
Toronto's Chris Bosh was held to just four points in 23 minutes, going 1-for-5 from the floor. Jermaine O'Neal had nine points in 25 minutes for the Raptors, who lost for the first time in 12 preseason games at Air Canada Centre.
Toronto (2-1) jumped out to an early 11 point lead in the first quarter, but by halftime Philadelphia had closed the lead to 41-39 by outscoring Toronto 22-8 in the paint.
Toronto slowly pulled away in the third quarter only to have Philadelphia go on a 9-0 run in the final minute of the frame to tie the game at 60.
The 76ers dominated the boards and the paint, outrebounding Toronto 51-37 and holding a 46-16 edge in points in the paint.
Toronto forward Jamario Moon led all players with 10 rebounds.
It was also a homecoming of sorts for 76ers center Samuel Dalembert, who gained his Canadian citizenship in 2007. It was his first time on Canadian soil since his abrupt dismissal from the Canadian National team. He was scoreless in 18 minutes.
