Suns aim for franchise record 16th straight win vs. Wizards
Dec 22, 2006 - 3:39 PM Washington (13-12) at Phoenix (18-6) 10:30 pm ESTPHOENIX (Ticker) -- Undefeated since November 18, the Phoenix Suns's biggest challenge these days may be the weather.
After Wednesday's game against the Denver Nuggets was postponed because of heavy snow, the Suns look to their extend their franchise record to 16 consecutive victories Friday when they host the Washington Wizards.
The poor weather in Denver prevented the red-hot Suns from leaving Thursday. That means Phoenix will make a rare same-day trip to get home in time to face Washington.
The league's highest scoring team (110.8), the Suns have the NBA's longest streak since the Los Angeles Lakers captured 19 straight wins from February 4-March 13, 2000. They also are 31-3 at home against Eastern Conference foes since the start of 2004-2005 campaign.
Phoenix, which began the season by dropping six of nine, is looking for its first 10-game home winning streak since December 7, 2004-January 11, 2005.
Amare Stoudemire scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Shawn Marion added 17 points and two-time MVP Steve Nash collected 15 assists for the Suns in Tuesday's 115-98 triumph over the Toronto Raptors.
Playing the finale of a four-game western road swing, the Wizards have won four of their last five and have scored at least 106 points in nine consecutive outings.
Antawn Jamison scored 33 points and had 13 rebounds, Gilbert Arenas added 30 points and Carol Butler 23 and 10 for Washington, which scored 73 second-half points in Thursday's 126-119 win over the Sacramento Kings.
