Dunleavy has big fourth quarter as Warriors top Magic

Dec 23, 2006 - 5:53 AM ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Even if he was a little lucky, Mike Dunleavy found his range at the right time.

Dunleavy scored nine of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and Baron Davis had 38 points and nine assists as the Golden State Warriors held off the Orlando Magic, 117-108, for their second straight win.

Monta Ellis collected 18 points and six rebounds for the Warriors, who shot 48 percent (40-of-83) from the field and 9-of-24 from the arc, including a barrage of 3-pointers when it mattered most.

"Our spacing was good, which we talked about at halftime that needed correcting," Golden State coach Don Nelson said. "When we did create some shots, they were there for us. The 3-point shot actually won the game for us. We made some, they didn't; otherwise, it's a pretty even game."

With the teams exchanging the lead in the fourth quarter, Dunleavy delivered the game's crucial shot as the Warriors held a four-point lead with just under two minutes left.

Matt Barnes fired an airball from the right corner, but Adonal Foyle snared the rebound and tossed it out to Dunleavy, who banked in an improbable shot from the arc as the shot clock expired to make it 107-100 with 1:52 remaining.

"I knew it was going in. It just felt good on my hands," Dunleavy said. "I didn't know how it was going in, whether it was glass, swish, or whatever. I knew to get it up there."

"I am glad it went in (Dunleavy's shot)," Davis said. "You could kind of feel it that it was going in. I thought Foyle was going to shoot it, but he was wise enough to kick it out to Dunleavy. He had a good touch on it. That is exactly what we needed."

The 6-9 Dunleavy then drained another 3-pointer for a 112-104 lead with 51 seconds left to seal the victory. He was 9-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the arc.

Davis shot 11-of-23 from the floor and 13-of-15 from the line, but had his biggest impact on the game with his passing ability.

"When you have Davis, who can pretty much get by anybody at anytime, and is creating, it makes it easier on us," Dunleavy said.

However, the 6-3 guard said he was happy with the way the entire team responded on the road.

"We just wanted to come in here like we have been preaching on the road and stay close," Davis said. "We wanted to allow ourselves with our style of play, to come in here to and close the game out with our 3-point shooting and our overall activeness."

Foyle collected eight points, five rebounds and four blocks.

"Well I'd like to credit (Adonal) Foyle, we haven't given him much credit this year," Nelson said. "Foyle is really the reason we won, I think. When I needed him, I needed that body, I needed some rebounds, and some presence up there and not only did he do that, but he got (eight) points for me."

Trevor Ariza scored 23 points and Dwight Howard added 15 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks for the Magic, who shot 48 percent (39-of-82).

"It was tough playing against some great guards," Howard said. "You've got to help the guards out when they come into the basket. You've just got to keep playing. We've got to keep playing through any situations. I like putting wins on the stat sheet instead of a loss, but you've got to keep playing."
