Grizzlies hope to cool off red-hot Arenas, Wizards

Dec 26, 2006 - 4:56 PM Memphis (6-22) at Washington (14-12) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Gilbert Arenas has been lighting up the scoring column, and he's not ready to stop anytime soon.

Arenas and the Washington Wizards search for their ninth win in 11 games when they host the lowly Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Arenas scored 54 points and Caron Butler added 34 and 10 rebounds in Friday's 144-139 overtime triumph over the surging Phoenix Suns, who had a 15-game winning streak ended.

A two-time All-Star, Arenas has topped the 30-point plateau nine times this month and scored 60 points December 17 vs. the Los Angeles Lakers. He ranks third in the NBA at 30.1 points per game.

Mike Miller scored 28 points for the Grizzlies, who dropped their fourth game in five tries with a 100-97 loss to the Utah Jazz on Saturday.

Memphis has a league-worst 2-14 record away from home, including five consecutive road defeats. However, the Grizzlies have won the last three meetings against the Wizards.
