Redd, Bucks top Spurs for fifth straight win

Dec 27, 2006 - 6:44 AM SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Michael Redd and the Milwaukee Bucks extended their winning streak at the expense of the flu-ridden San Antonio Spurs.

Redd scored 36 points and Mo Williams continued his stellar play with 23 as the Bucks won their season-high fifth straight with a 114-107 victory over the undermanned Spurs.

Andrew Bogut collected 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucks, who attacked a porous Spurs' defense to win in San Antonio for the first time since December 23, 2001.

"We played a very good basketball game," Milwaukee coach Terry Stotts said. "We were good offensively all night. The things that hurt us in the first half, we were able to shore up in the second half, mainly (Tony) Parker's penetration."

With the stomach flu attacking San Antonio's locker room, the Spurs were without guards Brent Barry and Manu Ginobili and forward Matt Bonner. However, they sped to a 78-65 lead with four minutes left in the third quarter before fatigue set in.

"(Missing three players) is not an excuse," Spurs small forward Bruce Bowen said. "It's an opportunity for others. Eric (Williams) stepped up and did a great job. I think everybody who played did a great job and stepped up being that we were shorthanded. Defensively, we need to do a better job and it starts with me."

The Bucks outscored San Antonio, 49-29, the rest of the way.

"It's a long game still," Redd said. "Teams make runs, and we had to stay focused. We did a good job of just chipping away, chipping away. We got stops, kept chipping away, took the lead and made some big shots."

Redd shot 14-of-22 from the floor and 8-of-8 from line. Williams, who is averaging 26.2 points during the winning streak, was 10-of-18 from the field.

"We just wanted to attack. We wanted to be in attack mode all night and not settle for just jumper," Redd said. Tim Duncan had 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who shot 45 percent (38-of-84) and allowed their most points this season.

"It's never happened (playing this poor defense)," Duncan said. "Not since I've been here. Defensive is obviously a concern of ours right now. We gave up over 100 points and we don't win games like that. To keep it simple - we have to do a better job."
