Iverson, Nuggets aim for third straight win vs. Hornets

Dec 29, 2006 - 3:45 PM Denver (16-10) at New Orleans (11-17) 8:00 pm EST

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- The Denver Nuggets could not ask for much more from their new superstar.

After improving to 2-1 since acquiring Allen Iverson, the Nuggets travel away from the snowy Denver area to face the undermanned New Orleans Hornets on Friday.

Iverson sliced through the defense at will and Earl Boykins added 24 points off the bench as Denver routed Seattle, 112-98, for its second straight win. Iverson had 44 points and 10 assists for the Nuggets, who helped coach George Karl pick up his 800th career victory.

On a night when the Denver area was hit with its second major snowstorm in as many weeks, Iverson dazzled the home crowd with his shot-making ability and constant energy. He has recorded 33 assists in his three games with Denver.

The Nuggets still are without superstar forward Carmelo Anthony and guard J.R. Smith, who were suspended for their roles in the team's ugly brawl in New York. However, the Hornets have been dealing with a shorthanded roster the entire season.

In their last contest, the Hornets were without reigning Rookie of the Year Chris Paul (ankle), Peja Stojakovic (back surgery) and David West (elbow).

Desmond Mason and Rasual Butler scored 16 points each for the Hornets, who dropped a 100-85 decision to Portland on Wednesday and have lost four of five games.
