Arenas looks to continue solid play vs. Magic

Dec 29, 2006 - 4:01 PM Orlando (17-13) at Washington (16-12) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- With Gilbert Arenas playing some of the best basketball of his career, the Washington Wizards are on a roll.

Arenas tries to continue a dominant December for the Wizards, who go for their fifth straight victory and eighth in nine games Friday against the Orlando Magic.

Tied with Allen Iverson for second in the NBA in scoring (30.5), Arenas has reached the 30-point plateau 11 times this month and is averaging 35 points in December. That total includes a franchise record 60-point outing against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 17.

Arenas made 10-of-19 shots from the floor, 14-of-16 free throws and scored 39 points to lead Washington to a 114-107 triumph over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday.

Caron Butler scored 25 points and Antawn Jamison had 17 with 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who improved to 10-3 at home.

After winning 11 of its first 15 games, Orlando has struggled lately. The Magic have lost three in a row, six of their last eight, and are 28th in scoring (92.7).

Grant Hill scored 20 points, Jameer Nelson added 15 and Darko Milicic 13 off the bench for Orlando in Wednesday's 106-93 loss to the Lakers.
