Arenas seeks early birthday present

Jan 5, 2007 - 2:52 PM LA Clippers (15-17) at Washington (18-13) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- If you take your eyes off Gilbert Arenas for just a moment, you may miss something spectacular.

One day before his 25th birthday, Arenas looks to continue his recent offensive firepower Friday when the Washington Wizards go for their seventh win in eight games against the Los Angeles Clippers.

A two-time All-Star, Arenas scored 32 points - including a 30-footer at the buzzer - for Washington in Wednesday's 108-105 triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks. He made 12-of-25 shots and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The league's third-leading scorer (30.3), Arenas is averaging 36 points in his last nine games. Washington is second in the league in points (107.7) and 15-1 when he scores 30 points.

Playing the third contest of a six-game Eastern road trip, the Clippers improved their record away from home to 3-11 with Wednesday's 110-95 victory over the injury-depleted Miami Heat.

Elton Brand scored 28 points, Chris Kaman added 20 and Corey Maggette 16 with 11 rebounds for Los Angeles, which shot nearly 61 percent (46-of-76) from the floor.

The Clippers won both meetings against the Wizards last season for their first series sweep since 1992-1993.
