Grizzlies aim for third win in for games under Barone
Jan 5, 2007 - 2:56 PM Boston (11-20) at Memphis (8-25) 8:00 pm ESTMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- It appears new Memphis Grizzlies coach Tony Barone has given his team the green light to push the ball up the floor.
Memphis goes for its third win in four games since Barone replaced Mike Fratello when it faces the Boston Celtics on Friday.
The Grizzlies were ranked near the bottom of the league in scoring in the last couple of seasons under Fratello. However, Barone has given them a spark.
Memphis topped the 100-point mark only twice in December prior to Fratello's dismissal and dropped 11 of 12. Under Barone, the Grizzlies have broken the century mark in all three contests and have won twice.
Mike Miller scored 33 points, including nine 3-pointers, Stromile Swift added 26 and Pau Gasol 24 with 13 rebounds for Memphis in Wednesday's 144-135 victory over the Golden State Warriors.
Boston opened January by snapping a six-game losing streak with Monday's 89-81 triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the Celtics could not maintain the momentum and suffered a 107-104 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers two days later.
Tony Allen scored 22 points, Gerald Green added 21 and Al Jefferson 18 with 12 rebounds for Boston, whic continues to struggle without injured leading scorer Paul Pierce (26.6).
Memphis posted a 98-96 victory over Boston in their last encounter December 6.
