Bryant goes for another 40-point outing vs. Nuggets
Jan 5, 2007 - 3:21 PM Denver (16-13) at LA Lakers (21-11) 10:30 pm ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Even with their injury problems, the Los Angeles Lakers can still rely on Kobe Bryant.
Bryant looks for his seventh 40-point outing of the season Friday when the Lakers host the Denver Nuggets.
The Western Conference Player of the Month for December, Bryant overcame a scoreless first quarter to score 42 points - including seven in overtime - in Thursday's 132-128 triumph over the Sacramento Kings.
The reigning NBA scoring champ made 11-of-21 shots and 17-of-20 free throws, and just missed a triple-double with 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Brian Cook scored 26 points and Andrew Bynum added 15 with 11 rebounds for Los Angeles, which played without Lamar Odom (sprained knee ligament) and Kwame Brown (sprained ankle).
Denver has lost its last three games and is 2-4 since acquiring Allen Iverson from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Iverson scored 30 points, Yakhouba Diawara added 23 and Marcus Camby grabbed 16 rebounds for the Nuggets in last Tuesday's 107-98 loss to Philadelphia.
