Sixers face Knicks for first time since hiring Brown

Jan 10, 2007 - 3:06 PM Philadelphia (9-25) at New York (15-21) 7:30 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Less than a week into his new job with the Philadelphia 76ers, Larry Brown gets a chance to settle the score with a former employer.

Philadelphia looks to snap a three-game losing streak and finally record its 10th victory of the campaign Wednesday in its initial encounter of the season with the New York Knicks.

Named the 76ers' executive vice president Saturday, Brown coached the Knicks to a 23-59 record in his only season in New York in 2005-2006 before he was fired in June following disagreements with owner James Dolan.

A Hall of Famer, Brown spent six seasons as 76ers coach from 1997-2003, guiding the franchise to the NBA Finals in 2001 before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers. He won his lone league title with the Detroit Pistons three years later.

Willie Green scored 16 points off the bench, Andre Iguodala added 15 and Samuel Dalembert 14 with 17 rebounds for Philadelphia in Tuesday's 98-89 loss to the Pistons.

Back home after a five-game Western road trip, the Knicks won their last two contests, including Friday's 111-93 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.

Stephon Marbury scored 28 points, Eddy Curry added 27 and Jamal Crawford 22 for New York, which shot 51 percent (41-of-80) from the floor, including 10-of-19 from the arc.

Philadelphia has won its last four meetings against the Knicks.
