Wizards again turn to Arenas when they visit Hornets

Jan 12, 2007 - 3:03 PM Washington (20-14) at New Orleans (13-22) 8:00 pm EST

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) - Gilbert Arenas is the primary reason the Washington Wizards are on such a hot streak.

Arenas tries to lead the Wizards to their ninth win in 11 contests Friday when they open a two-game weekend road trip against the New Orleans Hornets.

After being named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month in December, the 25-year-old Arenas was selected the Player of the Week for the first week in January. He is the league's second-leading scorer (30.5) and has led Washington to a 16-2 mark when scoring at least 30.

The Wizards are coming off Wednesday's 111-103 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Caron Butler scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Arenas added 20 despite making just 5-of-16 shots from the floor.

While Washington ranks second in the league in scoring (108.6), New Orleans is last (89.6) and has dropped five of its last six.

The Hornets snapped a five-game losing streak with Wednesday's 96-77 triumph over the Atlanta Hawks. Jannero Pargo scored 24 points and Rasual Butler added 21 for New Orleans, which limited Atlanta to 33 percent (30-of-90) shooting.

Washington has lost the last nine road meetings against the Hornets.
