Garnett, Timberwolves try to gain playoff position

Jan 17, 2007 - 5:50 PM Atlanta (12-23) at Minnesota (20-16) 8:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Fresh off a resounding road win, Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves return home to face a team they have virtually owned for the better part of a decade.

The Timberwolves look to match their longest winning streak of the season Wednesday when they host the lowly Atlanta Hawks.

One of the NBA's surprise teams this season, Minnesota has won 10 of its last 13 games since stumbling to a 10-13 start.

The Timberwolves recorded their third straight win in thrilling fashion Monday, holding on for a 94-90 overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons in Auburn Hills.

Ricky Davis scored 21 points and Garnett added 19 points, 14 rebounds and six assists for the Timberwolves, who have a chance to win four straight games for the third time this season.

Minnesota hopes to match that season high Wednesday against an Atlanta squad which has dropped eight straight games here and has not beaten the Timberwolves on the road since April 12, 1997.

The Hawks hope to carry some momentum from Monday's 100-96 victory over the Boston Celtics.

Josh Childress had season highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds and also received support from Josh Smith, who had 18 points, five steals and a season-high seven blocks.
