Williams spoils Webber's debut; Jazz end four-game slide

Jan 18, 2007 - 3:22 AM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Deron Williams ended one streak and kept another alive.

Williams had a career-high 31 points and 10 assists and Mehmet Okur scored 22 as the Utah Jazz snapped a four-game losing streak with a 100-99 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Carlos Boozer collected 20 points and nine rebounds and Matt Harpring added 10 points off the bench for the Jazz, who have won four straight meetings against the Pistons.

In their last matchup on November 6, Okur - a former Piston - came up with the game-saving block on Richard Hamilton's layup attempt as time expired to lift Utah to a 103-101 triumph.

In the fourth quarter, Okur connected on back-to-back jumpers during a 10-2 surge, giving the Jazz an 84-77 advantage with 6:18 left.

Chauncey Billups, who returned after missing eight games with a sprained right calf, scored five consecutive points for Detroit, which cut the deficit to 97-96 with 1:06 remaining.

After Williams and Detroit's Lindsey Hunter traded 3-pointers, the Pistons had one last chance to win, but Billups misfired from the wing as the buzzer sounded.

Billups scored 26 points and Tayshaun Prince chipped in 17 for Detroit, which shot 46 percent (37-of-80) from the floor. Newly acquired Chris Webber had just two points in 17 minutes off the bench in his Piston debut.
