Streaking Suns try for 13th straight win

Jan 19, 2007 - 3:47 PM Portland (16-24) at Phoenix (30-8) 9:00 pm EST

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Phoenix Suns go for their 13th straight win on Friday when they host the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Suns, 17-3 at home this season, are on their second big winning streak of the season and have established themselves as one of the teams to beat in the Western Conference. Phoenix won 15 straight from mid-November to mid-December.

Phoenix, 27-2 in its last 29 games, extended its streak with a 100-91 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. Amare Stoudemire, averaging 18.2 points per game, led the Suns with 22 points while Steve Nash finished with 21.

Nash, who leads the NBA with 11.2 assists per game, finished with 14 assists for the Suns, who tightened up defensively in holding the Rockets to only 16 points in the final quarter.

The Trail Blazers, 94-76 winners over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, did something the rest of the league has had trouble doing - they limited Cleveland superstar LeBron James. Portland held James to 23 points on 8-of-21 shooting.

Zach Randolph continued his excellent season by leading Portland with 26 points. The power forward, who averages 23.8 points a contest, also finished with 10 rebounds.

Brandon Roy chipped in with 15 for the Trail Blazers, who are averaging 92.2 points per game, the second-lowest average in the league. The Suns' 111.1 average per game is tops in the NBA.
