Wizards hope to disrupt Suns' winning ways once again

Jan 23, 2007 - 3:05 PM Phoenix (32-8) at Washington (24-16) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards ended the Phoenix Suns' remarkable streak earlier this season. They will have a chance to do so again.

Winners of four straight, Arenas and the Wizards look to end the Suns' 13-game winning streak when the teams square off in Washington on Tuesday.

Washington snapped Phoenix's franchise-record 15-game winning streak with an exhilarating 144-139 overtime victory on December 22.

Arenas netted 54 points, including six 3-pointers while Caron Butler scored 34 points, including 10 in the extra session, and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wizards.

Washington also snapped Dallas' 12-game winning streak with a 106-97 victory on December 4.

On Sunday, the Suns extended their current run with a 131-102 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was another easy triumph for Phoenix, which has won 31 of its last 34 games and owns the NBA's second-best record behind the Mavericks (34-8).

The Wizards squandered a 21-point second-half lead Sunday and endured a sloppy performance by Arenas before needing overtime to dispatch the injury-riddled Boston Celtics, 115-110.

Arenas scored 26 points but shot just 10-of-26 for Washington, which captured its 10th consecutive home win.

Washington has won seven of its last nine games against Phoenix at home.
