Surging Mavericks shoot for eighth straight win

Jan 23, 2007 - 3:54 PM Dallas (34-8) at Orlando (23-19) 7:00 pm EST

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- If Josh Howard and the Dallas Mavericks want to continue their winning streak, they will have to do so against one of the Eastern Conference's top squads.

The Mavericks aim to extend their seven-game winning streak Tuesday when they visit the Orlando Magic.

Boasting an NBA-best 34-8 record, Dallas has won 20 of its last 21 games to rebound from a slow start this season.

The Mavericks opened their three-game road trip with Sunday's 99-93 triumph over the Miami Heat in a rematch of last year's NBA Finals.

Howard scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds while reserve Jerry Stackhouse netted 16 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter for Dallas, which is 11-2 against Eastern Conference foes.

The Mavs look to improve that mark Tuesday against an Orlando club which owns the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference.

The struggling Magic snapped their season-high five-game skid Monday with a 90-79 triumph at Cleveland.

Dwight Howard, who scored a season-low one point in a loss to New Jersey on Saturday, bouncec back with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Grant Hill scored 22 points to pace Orlando.
