Magic look to continue home dominance of Hawks

Jan 26, 2007 - 5:22 PM Atlanta (14-26) at Orlando (23-20) 7:00 pm EST

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic are facing the right opponent to help them overcome their recent skid.

The Magic again turn to Dwight Howard as they try to win for just the second time in eight outings Friday in the opener of a home-and-home series against the Atlanta Hawks.

The 21-year-old Howard finished second to Miami's Shaquille O'Neal in fan balloting to be the starting center for the Eastern Conference All-Star Team. However, he still could be named as a reserve.

Howard is third in the league in rebounding (12.5), trailing Minnesota's Kevin Garnett and Denver's Marcus Camby by just one-tenth of a rebound. He also averages 17.0 points and nearly two blocked shots.

After snapping a five-game losing streak Monday against Cleveland, Orlando suffered a 111-95 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks the following night. Jameer Nelson scored 23 points and Howard added 15 with 14 rebounds.

Concluding a three-game road trip, the Hawks have dropped three of its last four and is just 7-15 on the road. They have also lost 13 of their last 14 visits here.

The Hawks overcame an 18-point first-quarter deficit in Wednesday's 82-76 victory over the Boston Celtics. Joe Johnson and Josh Smith scored 21 points apiece for Atlanta.

The Magic have won nine of the last 14 overall matchups against the Hawks, including a 98-79 triumph November 25.
