Anthony, Iverson try to help Nuggets win sixth straight
Jan 26, 2007 - 5:36 PM Denver (22-17) at Utah (28-15) 9:00 pm ESTSALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- The dynamic duo of Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson have meshed well in their first two contests as teammates.
Ranked among the league's top three scorers, Anthony and Iverson attempt to lead the Denver Nuggets to their sixth consecutive victory in Friday's showdown with the Utah Jazz.
Since returning from a 15-game suspension for his role in a brawl with the New York Knicks on December 16, Anthony scored 28 points Monday against the Memphis Grizzlies before getting 34 in Tuesday's 117-112 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.
Anthony tops the league in scoring (31.6) and finished third among Western Conference forwards in All-Star Game balloting, behind San Antonio's Tim Duncan and Minnesota's Kevin Garnett.
Iverson scored 21 points to become the 30th player to reach 20,000 in his career and added 10 assists against Seattle. He missed out on a starting spot in the All-Star Game, trailing Houston's Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.
After losing four straight games earlier this month, the Jazz won four in a row before Wednesday's 132-130 overtime defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Carlos Boozer scored 39 points on 18-of-24 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds. Mehmet Okur added 27 and 11 and Deron Williams collected 21 assists for the Jazz, who shot 55 percent (54-of-98) from the floor.
Utah has won 18 of its last 20 home encounters against Denver and took the initial meeting this season, 96-84, on January 8. Boozer led the Jazz with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
