Jazz face Hornets, look for sixth win in seven games

Jan 27, 2007 - 3:58 PM Utah (29-15) at New Orleans (17-25) 8:00 pm EST

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- Despite losing an all-purpose star, the Utah Jazz survived a matchup with one of the best combinations in the NBA.

Winners of five of their last six games, the Jazz will look to build on Friday's win against a divisional foe when they face the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday.

With Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson teaming up for just the third time this season, Utah held off the two superstars and the Denver Nuggets, 116-11, on Friday.

However, the win did not come without a price. Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko fell awkwardly late in the second quarter and suffered a sprained right ankle. He did not return to the game and X-rays after the game came back negative and he is listed as day-to-day.

Carlos Boozer scored 25 points and tied a season high by grabbing 19 rebounds, while rookie Ronnie Brewer tied his season high with 12 points and fellow reserve Gordan Giricek added 13 for the Jazz, which increased its lead in the division to five games over Denver.

The Hornets, who have won five of their last eight games, will play their fourth game in five days. On Friday, they improved to 2-2 in New Orleans where they will play a limited schedule due to the city's continued recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

Devin Brown nailed a crushing 3-pointer as the shot clock was expiring with 11.3 seconds left, helping the Hornets hold on for an 88-84 victory over Sacramento.

The Jazz have won three straight road contests against the Hornets.
