Surging Suns seek to extend winning streak vs. James, Cavs

Jan 28, 2007 - 1:55 PM Phoenix (35-8) at Cleveland (25-18) 1:00 pm EST

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Phoenix Suns easily toppled Lebron James during their incredible winning streak. They may not have to repeat the feat the next time they face the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The surging Suns aim to extend their franchise-record 16-game winning streak Sunday when they visit the Cavaliers.

Since stumbling to a 1-5 start this season, Phoenix has won 34 of its last 37 contests and twice has reeled off winning streaks of at least 15 games.

The Suns, who won 15 straight from November 20-December 19, ran their current streak to 16 games with Friday's 98-90 victory at Milwaukee.

Raja Bell scored 27 points, Shawn Marion grabbed a season-high 23 rebounds and reigning two-time MVP Steve Nash dished out 16 assists for Phoenix, which is on the NBA's longest winning streak since the Los Angeles Lakers won 19 straight in 2000.

During their current run, the Suns cruised to a 109-90 home victory over the Cavaliers on January 11. Nash had a season-high 21 assists in that contest as Phoenix jumped out to a 31-point lead after three quarters.

James, who scored 34 points in the initial meeting with Phoenix, is nursing a sprained right big toe and may not be available for Sunday's contest.

Playing without James, Cleveland rallied for a 105-97 triumph at Philadelphia on Friday. Drew Gooden scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cavs, who won for just the second time in their last seven games.
