Arenas, Wizards visit struggling Celtics

Jan 28, 2007 - 1:57 PM Washington (25-17) at Boston (12-30) 6:00 pm EST

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Two days after assuming the best record in the Eastern Conference, Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards take on the worst club in the East.

The surging Wizards shoot for their sixth victory in seven games Sunday when they visit the Boston Celtics.

Washington emerged as the top team in the East with Friday's 99-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Antawn Jamison scored 35 points and Arenas added 25 points and 10 assists for the Wizards, who moved one-half game ahead of the Pistons (24-17) for the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Arenas, who was voted onto the East starting roster for the 2007 All-Star Game this week, has averaged just 24.8 points over his last five games, nearly five points below his season average.

The superstar guard hopes for a better performance Sunday against a Celtics team mired in a season-high 10-game losing streak, the franchise's longest slide since a club-record 13-game skid from February 5-March 1, 1997.

Boston's latest defeat came Friday in a 96-90 loss at Toronto.

Al Jefferson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics, who own the worst record in the East and are just 2-16 without injured star swingman Paul Pierce.
