Spurs begin eight-game road trip against Lakers

Jan 28, 2007 - 1:59 PM San Antonio (31-14) at LA Lakers (27-16) 3:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- With the annual rodeo show in the town, the San Antonio Spurs are ready to begin their longest road trip of the season.

All-Star Tim Duncan tries to get the Spurs off to a flying start on their eight-game journey when they go for their fifth win in six games Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

San Antonio won six of eight contests on last season's Rodeo Road Trip and is 25-6 in the past four campaigns. The Spurs will not play their next home game until after the All-Star break when they host the Denver Nuggets on February 20.

Duncan, who will start for the Western Conference in the All-Star Game for the eighth consecutive year, averages 10.5 rebounds to rank among the league leaders, and has 25 double-doubles.

A two-time Most Valuable Player, Duncan just missed a triple-double with 26 points, 13 boards a career-high nine blocked shots for the Spurs in Friday's 112-96 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Although they have lost three of their last four games overall, the Lakers are 19-5 at home and are looking for a sweep of the three-game season series with the Spurs.

Coming off a 42-point outing Monday against the Golden State Warriors, All-Star Kobe Bryant had 32 for the Lakers in Friday's 106-97 overtime loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

Bryant became the youngest player to score 18,000 career points at 28 years, 156 days, surpassing Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain's mark by 12 days.
