Suns look to extend franchise-best winning streak to 18 games

Jan 29, 2007 - 4:40 PM Phoenix (36-8) at Minnesota (21-22) 8:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- It seems as if Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns have forgotten how to lose.

Riding a franchise-record 17-game winning streak, the Suns hope to extend their remarkable run when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.

Looking invincible at times, Phoenix used its high-powered offense and a sprinkling of defense in Sunday's 115-100 at Cleveland.

The franchise-record winning streak ties the seventh-best in NBA history and is the longest since the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls won 18 in a row. The Suns have not lost since December 28 and just twice since November 18.

In Sunday's nationally televised contest, Nash had 23 points and 15 assists without committing a turnover, taking apart the Cavaliers primarily in half-court sets and piloting an unstoppable, balanced attack.

Shawn Marion scored 23 points and Amare Stoudemire chipped in 22 for Phoenix, which also reeled off a 15-game winning streak from November 20-December 19 and has won nine road games during its current run.

The Suns will face the struggling Timberwolves, who snapped a season-high six-game skid Saturday with a 101-87 triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Kevin Garnett had 32 points and nine rebounds and Mike James added 17 points for Minnesota, which improved to 1-2 under interim coach Randy Wittman.
