Wizards, Pistons battle for top spot in East

Jan 30, 2007 - 2:54 PM Detroit (25-17) at Washington (26-17) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons will try to take back what Antawn Jamison and the Washington Wizards grabbed just a few days ago.

Battling for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, the Wizards will face off with the Pistons for the second time in five days on Tuesday.

After Detroit dominated the series in November, Washington held on for a 99-96 triumph on Friday to take a one-half game lead over the Pistons for the best record in the conference. Jamison scored 35 points and All-Star Gilbert Arenas chipped in 25 and 10 assists in the win.

The Wizards stumbled in both matchups earlier this campaign against the Pistons, including a 100-91 setback on November 17. Washington swept the season series a year ago.

The Wizards will play at home for the first time since having their 10-game home winning streak snapped against the Phoenix Suns last Tuesday. They have not lost at the Verizon Center against an Eastern Conference team since falling to Detroit nearly three months ago - an eight-game streak.

Washington ended its two-game road trip with a 105-91 rout of struggling Boston on Sunday. Jamison netted 34 points in the win.

Also, on Sunday, the Pistons pulled out an impressive win, defeating Indiana, 85-87. Newcomer Chris Webber collected 17 points and 13 rebounds.
