James hopes to play as the Cavaliers visit Heat

Feb 1, 2007 - 4:26 PM Cleveland (26-19) at Miami (20-25) 8:00 pm EST

MIAMI (Ticker) - What could be an exciting individual matchup Thursday hinges on the status of superstar LeBron James as his Cleveland Cavaliers travel to take on the Heat and superstar Dwyane Wade.

James is doubtful due to a sprained toe. He was held out of contact drills during Wednesday's practice and has missed three of the Cavaliers' last four games. The All-Star has averaged 28.3 points in six career games in Miami.

Cleveland did not need James in its last game Tuesday, beating Golden State, 124-97. Sasha Pavlovic started for James and scored a career-high 24 points to pace eight players in double figures. Donyell Marshall added 15 points off the bench for the Cavaliers, who have lost seven in a row in Miami since their last win December 21, 2001.

The Heat snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday, defeating the Milwaukee Bucks, 110-80. Wade scored 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting and added six rebounds and six assists for Miami, which won for just the second time in seven games.

Jason Kapono had 15 points, making 3-of-3 from the arc. Reserve center Michael Doleac added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Miami, which played without superstar center Shaquille O'Neal, who was named as a starter to his 14th All-Star Game despite appearing in just six games this season.

Cleveland is 8-2 all-time without James but just 5-23 all-time in Miami.
