Nash and Suns hope to start new streak vs. Spurs

Feb 1, 2007 - 4:34 PM San Antonio (32-15) at Phoenix (36-9) 10:30 pm EST

PHOENIX (Ticker) - The Phoenix Suns try to start another winning streak when they face Western Conference rivals the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.

The Suns are coming off Monday's 121-112 loss at Minnesota that snapped their 17-game winning streak. It was the longest streak in franchise history - surpassing a 15-game run earlier this season - and matched the seventh-longest in NBA annals.

Raja Bell scored 26 points and Shawn Marian added 24 and 10 rebounds for Phoenix, which allowed Minnesota All-Star Kevin Garnett to post a career-high 44 points on 18-of-29 shooting.

Steve Nash had 20 points and 18 assists and reserve Leandro Barbosa scored 17 points for the Suns, who have won nine straight at home.

The Spurs fell to 1-1 on their rodeo road trip with Wednesday's 97-93 loss to Utah. Tony Parker scored 27 points and dished six assists for San Antonio, which had a three-game road winning streak stopped.

Tim Duncan had 25 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks and reserves Manu Ginobili and Robert Horry added 10 points apiece for the Spurs, who have won three straight, four of five and seven of nine vs. the Suns.

San Antonio notched a 111-106 home win over Phoenix on November 8, when the Suns were mired in an early season four-game slide.
