Harrington's last second shot downs 76ers

Feb 3, 2007 - 5:21 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- For one night, newcomer Al Harrington put an end to the Golden State Warriors' woes away Oracle Arena.

Harrington nailed a driving layup with 1.2 seconds left to lead the Warriors to a thrilling 102-101 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers, snapping a six-game road losing streak.

The 6-9 Harrington, acquired from the Indiana Pacers on January 17 in an eight-player trade, waited for the lane to clear and overpowered Joe Smith driving to the basket for the game-winning layup.

Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala missed a long-range jumper at the buzzer to preserve the victory.

"I needed it," Harrington said. "I struggled all night. I was missing a lot of chippies and I was in foul trouble all night. When I caught it, I was looking to Baron (Davis) and he was looking at me like, 'Take it face up.' I was waiting for the clock to get down. I wanted to make it the last shot. I was just saying put it on me and I was happy that I made it."

Baron Davis scored 25 points and dished 12 assists and Monta Ellis added 21 for Golden State, which improved to just 5-17 on the road this season.

"It's big. We had lost six in a row and we might be the worst road team in the league," Harrington said. "In order for us to get where we're trying to get to - that's playoff and being an elite team in this league - you got to win your games on the road. That's what we focused in on."

The Warriors held a 75-68 advantage to start the fourth quarter, but the 76ers rallied and tied the game, 96-96, on a three-point play by Andre Miller with 1:21 remaining.

Iguodala's dunk with 59 seconds left gave the 76ers a 98-97 lead, and he converted a three-point play with 18 seconds to play to give the Sixers a 101-100 advantage.

Ellis missed a jumper on the other end and Harrington grabbed the rebound to set up the game-winning play.

"It was needed," Golden State coach Don Nelson said. "Anything that is positive is good right now. We really played well and we played well the whole game. We should have been up 15 points in the first half. We just needed to make shots but we were crisp, we were good and we followed the game plan."

Iguodala notched his third career triple-double, recording 25 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds, for Philadelphia, which shot 48 percent (39-of-81) from the floor.

"I used to let the game come to me," Iguodala said. "Without the ball I was a little standoffish. Now I have the ball in my hands, creating, and making stuff happen, and not taking any bad shots."

The triple-double was his second this season. He had 18 points, 16 assists and 10 rebounds on November 22 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

"You take some positives out of it," Iguodala said. "I think we executed well down the stretch. We got some stops down the stretch, but it was early in the game we needed stops when they scored a bunch of field goals in a row. When you lose a game like this, there is a lot you can learn from it as well."
