Harrington, Jackson face former team as Warriors visit Pacers
Feb 5, 2007 - 3:00 PM Golden State (22-26) at Indiana (26-21) 7:00 pm ESTINDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Indiana Pacers have enjoyed successful short-term results since shipping Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson to the West Coast. The duo will get its first chance to show their former team what they may be missing in the long term.
The Pacers face Harrington and Jackson for the first time since trading them to the Golden State Warriors when the teams square off Monday in Indiana.
Looking to spark its underachieving team, Indiana sent Harrington and Jackson to the Warriors on January 17 in a massive eight-player trade.
Golden State also received Sarunas Jasikevicius and Josh Powell while Mike Dunleavy Jr., Troy Murphy, Ike Diogu and Keith McLeod went to the Pacers in the deal.
The 6-9 Harrington was Indiana's second-leading scorer at the time of the deal, averaging 15.9 points per game. Jackson, who had feuded with coaches, local authorities and opposing fans in his two-plus seasons with the Pacers, was averaging 14.1 points before being traded.
Despite the loss of its second and third scoring options, Indiana has gone 6-3 since the deal, winning six of its last seven games.
All-Star Jermaine O'Neal, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, has been instrumental in Indiana's resurgence, averaging 21.6 points and 10.7 rebounds over his last seven games.
O'Neal has picked up the slack while Dunleavy and Murphy have struggled to adjust to their new surroundings. Dunleavy has averaged just 11.3 points on 39 percent shooting in eight games with Indiana while Murphy has averaged 8.3 points and 9.6 rebounds in seven contests since the trade.
Thanks to another brilliant outing from O'Neal, Indiana held on for a 116-110 triumph at Memphis on Saturday.
O'Neal scored 25 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while Jamaal Tinsley chipped in 25 points and nine assists for the Pacers, who rallied from a six-point halftime deficit.
The Warriors are just 3-6 since the trade, struggling on both ends of the floor. Golden State has managed just 95.8 points in its last four games while yielding an average of 109 points in the nine contests since the deal.
Harrington is averaging 20.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in his first eight games with the Warriors while Jackson has scored 14.6 points in eight contests since the deal.
Golden State hopes to bounce back from Saturday's 98-90 loss at Charlotte. Baron Davis scored 21 points while Andris Biedrins grabbed 18 rebounds to pace the Warriors, who managed just 37 points after the break.
