Randolph, Blazers survive another overtime; beat Bobcats

Feb 10, 2007 - 4:57 AM CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Overtime is becoming old hat for Zach Randolph and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Randolph scored 40 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Blazers posted a 108-100 overtime victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

Jarrett Jack had 20 points, including 12 in the extra period, and rookie Brandon Roy added 15 and eight rebounds for Portland, which weathered its fifth overtime game in its last nine contests.

"Whatever we've got to do to win is fine with me," Jack said. "However, we would like to get the games over in regulation sometimes."

Ime Udoka added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers, who snapped a three-game losing streak, including a 109-102 OT loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.

"It was another dogfight for us tonight," Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "We didn't play particularly well, but we fought and hung in there and were able to finish the game. We won a tough game, another overtime game. As I told the guys, we've got to win one of these."

Randolph shot 13-of-27 from the field and 13-of-15 from the line for his second 40-point game this season. He posted a career-high 42 in a win at Memphis on January 27.

"We finished the game out strong tonight," Randolph said. "Charlotte is a tough, scrappy team. We just fought all the way and played together."

With Portland trailing with under 10 seconds left in regulation, Roy helped send the game into overtime.

A leading candidate for NBA Rookie of the Year, Roy tied the game at 86-86 with 8.4 seconds left, when he took an inbounds pass, dribbled to the top of the arc and nailed a 3-pointer after receiving a screen from Randolph.

"I got stuck. I couldn't go left because of my hand and didn't have time to drive, so I just had to put it up," Roy said. "It felt like it was going in as soon as it left my fingers."

Emeka Okafor was fouled with 5.1 seconds remaining and made one of two from the line to put the Bobcats ahead, 87-86.

However, with 2.1 ticks left, Randolph drove the lane and was sent to the line. He made the first foul shot but missed the second, sending the Blazers to their second straight overtime.

"We blew it on the Brandon Roy shot," Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "The only thing we had to do was defend the 3-point shot and make them take the two. That amounted to the basketball game."

Jack connected on just 3-of-10 shots from the field but went 9-of-12 from the line in the extra period as Portland improved to 4-4 this season in overtimes.

Gerald Wallace scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Okafor added 23 and 12 before fouling out early in the extra period for the Bobcats, who are 1-5 all-time vs the Blazers, including 0-3 here.

Raymond Felton had 17 points and eight assists and Matt Carroll added 13 and seven boards for Charlotte, which has lost three straight.
