Nelson, Howard look to lead Magic past Nets
Feb 10, 2007 - 5:20 PM Orlando (26-25) at New Jersey (24-27) 7:30 pm ESTEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic likely are still on an emotional high following a comeback victory over a quality opponent.
After helping the Magic snap a three-game losing streak Friday, Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard look to lead Orlando to another triumph on Saturday against the New Jersey Nets.
Nelson, who turned 25 on Friday, scored 16 consecutive points bridging the third and fourth quarters and finished with a season-high 31 points as Orlando rallied from an 18-point deficit and posted a 106-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
After making 13-of-14 shots to score 32 points Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors, Howard was 11-of-14 and finished with 30 points against the Spurs. His dramatic one-handed dunk off Hedo Turkoglu's alley-oop pass with six-tenths of a second left lifted the Raptors to the dramatic win over San Antonio.
Coming off two victories on a three-game road swing, the Nets are back home where they are winless since January 20, when they posted a 101-94 victory over Orlando.
New Jersey won for just the fourth time in 11 games, posting a 92-78 win over the Boston Celtics on Friday. Vince Carter scored 21 points and rookie Marcus Williams added 17 off the bench.
Orlando set a season high in points with a 119-86 win over New Jersey in their most recent encounter last Friday. Turkoglu scored 22 points to lead seven Magic players in double figures.
