Arenas, Wizards hops to snap mini-skid, host Trail Blazers

Feb 11, 2007 - 1:35 PM Portland (21-30) at Washington (28-20) 1:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards hope to right a troubled ship when they host the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday.

Washington was blown out, 110-83, to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. Gilbert Arenas scored 29 points and Caron Butler added 15 for Washington which suffered its worst loss of the season.

No other player scored in double digits for the Wizards, who have lost three of their last four and are missing forward Antawn Jamison (19.3 points, 7.9 rebounds), who is sidelined for 3-to-6 weeks with a knee injury.

Washington will also be without backup center Etan Thomas, who was suspended by the club on Friday for an altercation with teammate Brendan Haywood in practice.

Portland has no problems up front, especially with Zach Randolph in the post. The Blazers beat the Charlotte Hornets 108-100 in overtime on Friday.

Randolph scored 40 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Portland, which won its first game in February after three previous defeats.

Jarrett Jack had 20 points and rookie Brandon Roy added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers, who evened their record at 4-4 in OT. Five of Portland's last nine games have gone past regulation.

The Blazers lead the all-time series between the teams 44-43. Washington has won two straight here against Portland.

The Trail Blazers are the only team Arenas has not scored 30 points or more against in his career.
