Jazz seek sixth straight win, face Cavaliers

Feb 14, 2007 - 4:21 PM Cleveland (30-21) at Utah (34-17) 9:00 pm EST

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) - Without Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur has played like an All-Star. On Tuesday, he was rewarded by NBA commissioner David Stern.

After being named to the All-Star team as an injury replacement, Okur will lead the Utah Jazz against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

With the recent injuries to two-time MVP Steve Nash of Phoenix and superstar Allen Iverson of Denver, Okur was selected to the squad along with sharpshooter Ray Allen by Stern.

It is the first All-Star berth for Okur, a native of Turkey who is averaging a career-high 18.2 points and 7.4 rebounds. Riding a five-game winning streak, the Jazz have relied on Okur, who is averaging 25.6 points and 8.0 rebounds during the stretch.

Boozer is sidelined at least another month with a broken bone in his left leg.

Utah continued its stellar play with a 102-76 triumph over Atlanta on Monday. Okur scored 19 points, Derek Fisher s14 and rookie Paul Millsap added 13 and nine rebounds off the bench.

After losing eight of 12 games, the Cavaliers have won three straight.

Cleveland overcame a poor second half by James for a 99-90 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday. Sasha Pavlovic scored 13 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and James scored 18 points but had just one basket in the second half.

However, James had huge game in the last meeting against the Jazz on January 21, 2006 as he poured in 51 points in a 108-90 victory. The Cavaliers have won five of their last six matchups between the teams.
