Pistons aim for eighth straight win, face Spurs

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons seek their second eight-game winning streak of the season Wednesday when they face the San Antonio Spurs.

Sparked by their winning streak, the Pistons have taken over the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They also own a 2 1/2-game lead over Cleveland in the Central Division. Detroit also won eight in a row from November 17-December 1.

Chris Webber had 19 and nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack as the Pistons posted a 92-74 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.

With coach Gregg Popovich challenging his team to play better, the Spurs responded with a 107-82 rout of New Jersey on Tuesday. Tim Duncan had 21 points and eight rebounds and Tony Parker added 19 points.

San Antonio is 3-4 on an eight-game road trip which concludes with this contest.

This is the first meeting between the teams this season.
