Wizards seek to hold on to first place in Southeast

Feb 20, 2007 - 1:55 PM Minnesota (25-27) at Washington (29-21) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Wizards stumbled into the All-Star break, but look to get back on the winning track when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.

Washington is 2-4 in its last six contests but still in first place in the Southeast Division, 3 1/2 games ahead of the Orlando Magic.

All-Star Gilbert Arenas is averaging 28.8 points a game, the second-highest average in the league. But he has cooled lately, averaging just 19 points in his last four games. Arenas scored 22 in a 92-85 win over the Philadelphia 76ers last Wednesday.

The Timberwolves ended the Phoenix Suns' 17-game winning streak on January 29, and extended the Boston Celtics' franchise-record losing streak to 18 games on February 11.

Minnesota moved into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 99-94 triumph over the Denver Nuggets last Wednesday.

Mark Blount led the Timberwolves with 24 points - his third highest output of the season. Kevin Garnett added 19 points for the Timberwolves, who are 2-8 in their last 10 road contests.
