Wallace makes first trip back to the Motor City

Feb 25, 2007 - 3:52 PM Chicago (32-25) at Detroit (35-19) 1:00 pm EST

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Ben Wallace might not be hearing any cheers from the fans in his return to Motown.

Wallace finally makes his long awaited trip back to The Palace of Auburn Hills when the Chicago Bulls visit the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons on Sunday.

Wallace had spent the previous six seasons with Detroit, where he was a member of the 2003-04 championship squad and captured the Defensive Player of the Year Award four times.

However, the four-time All-Star left in the offseason, signing a four-year, $60 million deal with Central Division rival Chicago.

Despite the loss of Wallace, Detroit still remains among the elite in the NBA, holding a 3 1/2-game lead in the conference. The Pistons have won 10 of their last 11 games after Saturday's 94-89 triumph at Orlando.

A major part of the Pistons' recent success is due in large part to Chris Webber, who has helped the team post an impressive 14-4 record since signing with his hometown team on January 16.

Detroit and Chicago faced off earlier this campaign at the United Center, with the Bulls coming away with an effortless 106-89 win on January 6.

The Bulls, who are riding a three-game winning streak, would like to improve on their 3-13 record at Detroit since the 1997-98 season.
