Stevenson looks for another stellar game vs. Timberwolves
Feb 25, 2007 - 5:31 PM Washington (31-22) at Minnesota (25-30) 3:30 pm ESTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- DeShawn Stevenson is happy to see the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After an outstanding performance against the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Stevenson and the Washington Wizards will look for continued success when the teams meet again on Sunday.
In the first game after the All-Star break for both squads, Minnesota posted a 112-100 win at Washington. All-Star Gilbert Arenas continued his MVP-caliber season with 38 points, but it was Stevenson who was the difference in the game.
Notching just his second 20-point game of the campaign, Stevenson scored a season-high 23 points for the Wizards, who took a 31-19 lead after the opening period and never looked back.
It was an important game for Stevenson, who has had more responsibility offensively with forward Antawn Jamison sidelined with a sprained left knee since January 30. Averaging 19.7 points and 7.9 rebounds, Jamison is expected to return within the next few weeks.
Stevenson, who has averaged 13.7 points since Jamison's injury, netted 13 in a 105-90 loss in the first contest of a three-game road trip against Chicago on Friday.
Arenas scored 18 consecutive points during one stretch and finished with 36, but Washington fell short.
The sliding Timberwolves lost again, 116-104, to Phoenix on Friday. Kevin Garnett had 28 points and 19 rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost 14 of its last 19 games.
The Timberwolves, who will play the third contest in a season-high five-game homestand, have won six straight contests against the Wizards at the Target Center.
