Evans provides Lakers with a boost

Feb 26, 2007 - 3:00 PM LA Lakers (32-25) at Utah (37-18) 9:00 pm EST

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Maurice Evans is providing a much-needed boost to the ailing Los Angeles Lakers.

Evans hopes to help the Lakers to their third consecutive victory and second in an many nights on Monday when they visit the Utah Jazz.

In just his fourth start, Evans scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Lakers to a 102-85 victory over Golden State on Sunday. It was Los Angeles' second straight win following a six-game losing streak.

Evans has gotten a chance to start due to injuries to Luke Walton, Kwame Brown and Vladimir Radmanovic.

Utah was also shorthanded on Saturday night due to injuries to starters Mehmet Okur and Andrei Kirilenko, although it didn't matter in a 105-87 victory over Boston.

The Jazz got a boost from their bench as Gordan Giricek and Matt Harpring scored 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Utah has won eight of its last nine games and owns the league's second-best home record at 22-6, behind Dallas' 26-3.
