Mavericks try for 13th straight win

Feb 27, 2007 - 3:44 PM Dallas (47-9) at Minnesota (26-30) 8:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks aim to match their longest winning streak of the season when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.

Dallas extended its winning streak to 12 games with a 110-87 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday. Nowitzki scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Mavericks became the first team in NBA history to win 12 in a row three separate times in one season.

Jason Terry had 21 points and Josh Howard added 20 before suffering an ankle injury in the fourth quarter when he came down on the foot of Hawks guard Joe Johnson. X-rays of his leg were negative and he is listed as day-to-day.

Minnesota snapped a three-game losing streak with a 98-94 victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday. Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Wolves, who are 1-2 on their season-high five-game homestand.

Ricky Davis scored 27 points and rookie Randy Foye added 13 and eight assists for Minnesota, which has lost three straight to Dallas.

If the Mavericks can earn a victory they can next try to match the franchise record of 14 straight wins on March 1 when they host Cleveland. The club won 14 straight contests to start off the 2002-03 season.
