Mavs look to tie franchise record winning streak

Mar 1, 2007 - 4:43 PM Cleveland (33-24) at Dallas (48-9) 8:00 pm EST

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Dallas Mavericks have to go through superstar LeBron James if they want to match a franchise record for consecutive wins.

The Mavericks go for a 14th straight win when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday.

Dallas set a franchise record with 14 wins to start the 2002-03 campaign.

The Mavs matched a season high for consecutive wins with a 91-65 victory over Minnesota on Tuesday.

Dallas (48-9) also won 13 in a row from December 13-January 5 and had a 12-game run before that to become the only team in league history with three streaks of 12 or more straight wins.

Dirk Nowitzki collected 23 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Minnesota. All-Star Josh Howard battled through a sore ankle to score 17 points for Dallas, which improved to a league-best 21-6 away from home this season.

James has led Cleveland to wins in two of the last three meetings with Dallas. On March 29, James scored 46 points to increase his career scoring average against the Mavericks to 30.3 points - his second-best against any opponent.

James had 35 points and eight assists in the Cavaliers' 97-89 victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday.
