Richardson, Warriors blow away Pistons

Mar 6, 2007 - 5:54 AM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Jason Richardson and the Golden State Warriors once again looked like world beaters when they faced the Detroit Pistons.

Richardson scored a season-high 29 points and Baron Davis added 15 in his return as the Warriors crushed the Pistons, 111-93, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Al Harrington had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Stephen Jackson, who missed his previous four games with a foot injury, added 14 points and seven assists for Golden State, which handed Detroit its worst home loss this season.

"I don't know if the force was with us tonight but we did play really well," Warriors coach Don Nelson said. "We made shots and that sure helps. We played a really good overall game I thought."

The Warriors also delivered the Pistons' worst loss overall this season, 111-79 on November 11. In that contest, Davis had 20 points and nine assists, helping the Warriors snap a five-game losing streak to the Pistons. This win snapped an 11-game road losing streak at Detroit.

Davis, who missed his previous 13 games with a left knee injury, was 5-of-9 from the field as the Warriors won here for the first time since November 28, 1993.

"I thought Baron set the tempo defensively more than anything," Nelson said. "He and Jackson are my two best defenders and to have them on the floor working together was really a luxury we haven't had."

"The Warriors haven't won in Detroit in 14 years," Richardson said. "I've been in the league for six and finally got one."

Trailing by two points after the first period in this one, Richardson had 17 points in the second quarter to erase a two-point deficit and help Golden State forge a 61-55 halftime lead.

"The second quarter went too much going their way," Pistons forward Jason Maxiell said. "We couldn't get a stop and after the second half they just kept on rolling."

Jackson had 10 points and Harrington added eight in the third quarter when the Warriors extended their lead to 88-71 entering the final quarter.

"It was kind of like everything we did went sour," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "When you fall behind by 14 or 16, then you have to play out of character because you're playing catch-up. We're not a team that can play catch-up."

Reserve Lindsey Hunter scored a season-high 20 points and Tayshaun Prince added 18 for the Pistons (37-21), who lead the Cleveland Cavaliers by 3 1/2 games for the best record in the Eastern Conference. The clubs play each other Wednesday.
