Nets look to snap out of funk vs. lowly Grizzlies

Mar 12, 2007 - 2:51 PM New Jersey (28-35) at Memphis (16-48) 8:00 pm EDT

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The struggling New Jersey Nets certainly felt the Texas sizzle. Coach Lawrence Frank and star point guard Jason Kidd even overheated.

With their coach and captain losing their cool in their last game, the Nets look to regroup when they face the lowly Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

New Jersey has dropped five in a row, including three losses in Texas against Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

The Nets' frustration was evident on Saturday in a 93-77 loss at San Antonio. Kidd thought he was fouled on a drive to the basket in the third quarter and, after a lengthy argument, was assessed consecutive technicals and ejected. Frank was booted during the break between the third and fourth quarters for arguing another call with the refs.

In his second game back from ankle surgery, Richard Jefferson continued to show rust, scoring just seven points on 3-of-10 shooting for the Nets.

With its skid, New Jersey has dropped to 10th place in the Eastern Conference, one-half game behind ninth-place Orlando, which is one-game behind New York for the final playoff spot.

The Nets look to turn it around against the Grizzlies, who have yet to post back-to-back wins this season. They will have a chance on Monday after defeating Charlotte, 115-107, on Saturday.

New Jersey has won the last two meetings, including a 105-92 victory on December 11. Vince Carter scored 37 points and drained a career-high nine 3-pointers.
