Streaking Mavs look to avenge early-season loss to Warriors

Mar 12, 2007 - 3:04 PM Dallas (52-9) at Golden State (29-36) 10:30 pm EDT

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Dallas Mavericks seek to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 18 games when they face the Golden State Warriors for the first time since November.

Dallas started the season with four straight losses and has gone a remarkable 52-5 since, already clinching its seventh straight playoff appearance.

However, in the last meeting between the teams, the Mavericks were mired in their season-opening skid. Golden State sent Dallas to its third straight loss, 107-104, on November 6. Baron Davis scored 26 points and Jason Richardson added 22 for the Warriors.

But the Mavericks have been unbeatable since then, including a 108-72 thrashing of the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. Josh Howard scored 24 points and Dirk Nowitzki added 19.

Golden State also has a different look, thanks to a huge eight-player deal on January 17. The Warriors acquired forwards Al Harrington and Josh Powell, swingman Stephen Jackson and guard Sarunas Jasikevicius from Indiana for forwards Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy and Ike Diogu and guard Keith McLeod.

Golden State is 10-15 since the trade and 1 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Warriors had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 106-87 loss at Portland on Sunday. Harrington scored 16 points and Richardson had 14 for the Warriors, who played without Davis after he complained of stiffness in his left knee.
