Sonics F Lewis can set franchise record for 3-pointers

Mar 13, 2007 - 2:32 PM Detroit (39-22) at Seattle (25-38) 10:00 pm EDT

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Forward Rashard Lewis has been one of the few bright spots in a disappointing campaign for the Seattle SuperSonics.

Averaging 21.8 points this season, Lewis can become the franchise leader in career 3-pointers when the SuperSonics look to break a three-game losing streak Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons.

The 27-year-old Lewis has 917 3-pointers to equal the club record set by Gary Payton, who played for Seattle from 1990-2003. A nine-year veteran, Lewis is fifth in career points (9,804) and sixth in rebounds (3,483) with the Sonics.

Lewis is averaging 23.3 points in his last five outings. His 26-point, 13-rebound effort was not enough for Seattle to end its slide in Sunday's 120-119 overtime loss to Toronto.

In Seattle's first encounter against Detroit this season, Lewis scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 97-93 defeat to the Pistons. Leading scorer Ray Allen (26.7) did not play due to a foot injury.

Playing the third contest of a five-game road trip, Detroit can become the first team in the Eastern Conference to record 40 victories this season. The Pistons have a two-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Central Division race.

Detroit is 14-4 in its last 18 contests and has limited 13 opponents to no more than 90 points in that stretch. The Pistons are one of just four teams with 20 road triumphs this season.

Chris Webber is averaging 19.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in his last three games. He had 19 and 11 and Richard Hamilton scored 23 for Detroit in Sunday's 98-80 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
